Welcome to my site! If you are a reader of Epic Fantasy, especially set in “olden” times, then this is a good place to visit. I like to call it ‘Old World Fantasy’ but there is no such category ‘officially’. Maybe I can start new trend. What do you think?
Please take the time to check out my first novel “Earth’s Pendulum, Book One – Back From Chaos”, the revised edition, and its sequel, “Through Kestrel’s Eyes”. The third volume, “The Dreamt Child,” which will complete the original trilogy, is well underway. Who knows where the muse will lead me to next…
You are also welcome to check out my blog, where I hope we can dialogue on writing and related topics. From time to time, I will include posts from other writers that you may find interesting.
Writing is a retirement vocation for me. The nest is bare, my children flown, and I finally have the time to devote to this passion. Stay tuned as I learn the ‘rest of the work’, the other skills I need to keep you all up to date with the latest.
I finally found my calling writing Epic Fantasy, a sub-genre of fantasy fiction. Finding the category readers will identify with has been a challenge. My work doesn’t fit neatly into the ones already available. I won’t go into what it is not except to say that there are no creatures in my fantasy novels you’ve never met and only minimal amounts of paranormal.
Finding the right words to describe what we write is a dilemma many fantasy writers face as the the genre is so wide open.It is unfortunate that fantasy novels and fantasy stories are listed with science fiction when they really have very little in common. I have spoken with (virtually) many fantasy authors who face this problem. “What’s in a name?” It’s an important questions deserving of a good answer.
My series does include seers who can communicate with a few animals and with the goddess earth. So where do I fit? Some have thought historical fantasy would be a good fit, but my setting is not historically accurate. My fantasy novels are set in an early medieval time, with very little technology, but the world I have created never really existed. But if you like novels that include a smattering of adventure, a little romance, some intrigue, in a sweeping setting with great characters you will fall in love with, you have come to the right place. My books may be labelled fantasy novels, but the characters seem real and the setting will feel somehow familiar.
If you are interested in reading more about me or my creative process, please visit my blog. I would be happy to share any insight that I can provide to those seeking it. I also often share posts from others that I find particularly interesting or helpful, especially those about writing, self-publishing, the life of the Indie author and related topics. Occasionally I feature other authors, not necessarily fantasy authors, but ones whose work I respect and wish to support.
Another passion of mine is the work I do for Indies Unlimited, where I am a contributing author and staff member. This volunteer group has done so much to support and promote Indie writers and authors. Our group includes writers of every genre, even a few fantasy authors, so I feel right at home there. I invite you to check it out. You won’t be disappointed.
Writing is a time consuming vocation but I love to hear from fans and readers and do my best to answer all those who take the time to contact me. You, the readers and fans, are my inspiration. Without you this whole effort would be futile.

Eagerly anticipating the second in the series!
Thanks Wendy. Hope the wait won’t be too long.
I just read your teaser and although I am not a Fantasy enthusiast, I think it is very well written. I wish you well in you publishing endeavours.
Thank you Diane. That ‘taste’ is the beginning of the first book. Soon I will add the one for the second book. . I just need to figure out how. (haha)
@succfessbemine: Fantasy was not my genre, either, until I read Yvonne’s first book. Twice. This gal is a 5 star wordsmith, and trust me, a lot of drivel crosses my desk.
Thanks Wendy. Nice to have you in my corner.
Yvonne, I blogged about your free books today available on Amazon.com. The blog is here: http://dianetibert.com/2012/05/30/free-fantasy-novel-by-yvonne-hertzberger/

‘Old World Fantasy’ I love it! I think you should push that genre, Yvonne.
Thanks, TD. It does seem to fit better than anything else out there.
Happy blog-warming! Just signed up. It all looks good. The only thing I miss from the old one is being able to comment using my wordpress ID. Otherwise it looks as if everything is working seamlessly.
Thanks, Meeks. Hmmm, I’ll have to check into that. It’s a problem I have on some other people’s blogs as well.
